What is MetaMask?

MetaMask is a browser extension that functions as a digital wallet, providing a secure and convenient way to manage your Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens. It also acts as a bridge to dApps, enabling you to engage with the decentralized ecosystem directly from your browser.

Installing the MetaMask Extension

Step 1: Choose Your Browser

MetaMask is available for several browsers, including:

  • Chrome

  • Firefox

  • Brave

  • Edge

Step 2: Download and Install

  • Go to the MetaMask website and select your browser.

  • Click the “Install MetaMask for [Your Browser]” button.

  • Follow the prompts to add the MetaMask extension to your browser.

Setting Up MetaMask

Step 1: Create a New Wallet

  • Click the MetaMask icon in your browser’s toolbar to open the extension.

  • Click “Get Started” and then “Create a Wallet.”

  • Set a strong password for your wallet and agree to the terms of use.

Step 2: Backup Your Secret Recovery Phrase

  • MetaMask will generate a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase.

  • Write down this phrase on paper and store it in a secure location.

  • Confirm the recovery phrase by selecting the words in the correct order.

Using MetaMask

Step 1: Adding Funds

  • Open the MetaMask extension and log in with your password.

  • Click “Add Funds” to see your wallet address.

  • Send Ethereum (ETH) or any ERC-20 tokens to this address from an exchange or another wallet.

Step 2: Connecting to dApps

  • Visit a dApp website that supports MetaMask (e.g., Uniswap, OpenSea).

  • Click the “Connect Wallet” button on the dApp.

  • Select MetaMask from the list of wallet options.

  • Approve the connection request in the MetaMask extension.

Step 3: Sending and Receiving Tokens

  • To send tokens, click the “Send” button in MetaMask.

  • Enter the recipient’s address, the amount, and choose the token.

  • Confirm the transaction details and click “Next.”

  • Review and confirm the transaction in the MetaMask extension.
